Queens

Queens is considered the most ethnically diverse urban area in the world. Over the last decade, the number of older adults in the borough increased by almost 40%. And 14% of the borough’s older adults live below the federal poverty line, putting them at risk of social isolation and hunger.

Citymeals delivered nearly 503,000 meals to 4,300 homebound elderly recipients in Queens last year.

Citymeals deliverer Veronica hands a meal to Jackie, a senior living in Queens New York.

I could always put together a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. To have that friend that comes to see you every day, that's worth a lot.

Jackie, CityMeals recipient

Our meal recipient Jackie, now in her early 70s, has called Queens home her entire life. She began receiving home-delivered meals five years ago, while recovering from open-heart surgery. Now her long-time meal deliverers Veronica and Pablo have become like family, fondly calling her “Jaquita.”
