Brooklyn

With Brooklyn’s hip reputation, it’s easy to overlook the 20% of borough residents who are food insecure. Brooklyn accounts for 30% of the city’s older adult population. Lacking reliable access to affordable and nutritious food, Brooklyn’s homebound elderly depend on the lifeline Citymeals provides.

Last year, we delivered over 620,000 meals to 3,700 of our older neighbors in Brooklyn, the borough with the most Citymeals recipients.

Thomastine, Citymeals Recipient

At 94 years old, Thomastine has seen the borough transform. She remembers the clinking of glass milk bottles on her family’s stoop in East Williamsburg. “We lived in Brooklyn when they had cobblestones and horse drawn wagons,” she laughs.
