Citymeals on Wheels provides a continuous lifeline of nourishing meals and vital companionship for nearly 22,000 homebound older New Yorkers, helping them live with dignity in their own homes and communities. Since 1981, Citymeals has delivered nearly 70 million meals to our older neighbors in need. 

Citymeals is currently seeking a Director of Programs. The Director of Programs will play a key role in the management, development, implementation, and measurement of current and new programs to advance Citymeals’ impact in the aging, food insecurity and hunger space for older adults throughout NYC. This position will be primarily responsible for driving project management execution and helping to accelerate multiple new initiatives and improving quality and outcomes for ongoing pilots through performance evaluation.

The Ideal candidates will have a minimum of 5 years of program management experience with an increasing scope of responsibilities in a dynamic environment. They will have a high degree of commitment to the work, excellent initiative, sound judgment, excellent project management, and influencing skills, and a collaborative spirit.

This position reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and will work collaboratively with the Volunteer, Policy and Advocacy and Distribution Center teams and supervises the Program Coordinator.

Citymeals is working on a hybrid schedule and located in Midtown Manhattan. Days may vary due to business needs. 

Responsibilities:

  • Actively and effectively participate in strategic planning in support of new organizational directions
  • Provide strategic vision for new projects, expanding programs, and initiatives for the organization
  • Initiate and set goals for programs according to the strategic objectives of the organization
  • Recommend innovative plans and processes to improve program functions
  • Lead the development of work systems and processes that effectively drive productivity
  • Ensure metrics are met by closely monitoring program progress and recommending performance improvements
  • Identify performance gaps of ongoing pilots, facilitate discussion, communication, and coordination among stakeholders to identify and understand root cause, priority, and impact of issues to the programs and stakeholders
  • Effectively and in timely manner create and monitor departmental budget
  • Successfully partner with city agencies, elected officials, and community-based organizations to engage New Yorkers on aging, hunger, and emergency response in collaboration with the Policy and Advocacy team
  • Act as an effective liaison with other internal departments regarding the dissemination of programmatic statistics and other noteworthy information about metrics and impact
  • Supervise program staff and student interns

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in program management, with a demonstrated track record of delivering measurable success and business value
  • Master’s degree preferred (MSW, MPH, MPA)
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory management experience
  • Experience in working effectively with community stakeholders such as nonprofit partnerships
  • Focused on using data to inform continuous improvement and decision-making  
  • Enthusiasm and a commitment to helping solve food insecurity and social isolation issues of the aging and/or interest in social services in New York City broadly
  • Flexible and creative in approach to making plans and leveraging resources to deliver measurable results
  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills (across a variety of mediums) in interacting with and influencing multiple cross-functional stakeholders and senior management
  • Capacity to think critically, assess and synthesize data, and present in a clear and concise manner
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 suite; experience using Teams a plus
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus

The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $115,000, plus an annual discretionary bonus based on organizational and individual success.
