On Tuesday, some of New York City’s top pastry chefs and restaurateurs came together at Rôtisserie Georgette to kick off the second annual Sweet September, a fundraising initiative supporting Citymeals. For the entire month of September, every time you buy a designated Sweet September dessert at participating restaurants and sweet shops, they will donate a portion of proceeds to Citymeals.
Beth Shapiro, Executive Director of Citymeals, joined the chefs and owners at Rôtisserie Georgette as they put their creative confections on display. Georgette Farkas, Founder and General Manager of Rôtisserie Georgette, opened up her kitchen where pastry chef Jennifer Tafuri created the restaurant’s Sweet September treat, Warm Tarte Tatin for Two with Crème Fraîche.
Shapiro explained, "Compassionate dessert lovers can indulge in tasty treats from some of our city’s most talented chefs while supporting Citymeals. Our homebound elderly neighbors, who don’t have the luxury of getting to these restaurants and sweet shops, simply look forward to a nourishing meal and a knock at the door from a friendly meal deliverer. That’s precisely what the proceeds from ‘Sweet September’ will provide. I can’t think of a better excuse to satisfy your sweet tooth! Thank you to all of the restaurants, shops, chefs and owners for being so 'sweet' and generous."
Farkas commented, "Everyone at Rôtisserie Georgette is thrilled to, once again, be a part of this delicious initiative. Being able to help Citymeals-on-Wheels nourish frail aged New Yorkers is a treat itself."
