(Wednesday, November 19, 2025 - New York, NY) - Today, 400 leaders in the fields of business, fashion, entertainment, arts, government and philanthropy gathered at The Plaza to support Citymeals on Wheels for the nonprofit’s 38th Annual Power Lunch. Emceed by Citymeals Board Member and 20/20 Co-Host and ABC News Senior Correspondent Deborah Roberts, the event raised $1.4 million to deliver 140,000 nourishing meals for homebound older New Yorkers.
This year’s Power Lunch honored longtime supporter Suri Kasirer, CEO of Kasirer LLC. and Citymeals Board Vice President, with the Joan H. Weill Impact Award and corporate partners WWD, Robb Report and Penske Media. Also in attendance were Citymeals Board President Colleen Goggins and Event Chairs Derek Blasberg, Dr. Samantha Boardman, Margo M. Nederlander and Lizzie Tisch.
“At our 38th Power Lunch, Citymeals is proud to honor Suri Kasirer and our corporate partners WWD, Robb Report and Penske Media for their powerful commitment to helping Citymeals achieve our goal to end hunger among older New Yorkers,” said Citymeals CEO Beth Shapiro. “We are inspired by the steadfast support from our donors and sponsors who came together today. Amid rising food insecurity in our city and nation, we’re grateful for their generosity, which directly supports Citymeals' lifeline and the well-being of the 22,000 older New Yorkers we serve.”
Power Lunch is Citymeals on Wheels’ largest annual fundraiser. Citymeals is committed to ending hunger among older New Yorkers by 2040 and believes that hunger is a solvable problem with a concrete solution – more food for those who need it most. Of the 1.8 million older adults in New York City, 1 in 10 are food insecure, and of Citymeals recipients surveyed, 65% are living on $15,000 a year or less. Over the last month, in response to the government shutdown and cuts to SNAP, Citymeals has delivered 25,000 pounds of additional emergency food to 9,000 older New Yorkers most in need.
Amidst this, Citymeals’ impact is clear: working in partnership with 30 community-based organizations and older adult centers, Citymeals delivers over 2.2 million meals to 22,000 homebound older New Yorkers across the five boroughs. Ninety percent of recipients say that home-delivered food helps them remain in their own homes and improve their health.
Citymeals’ official sponsors are American Airlines and FIJI Water. Event sponsors included Bloomberg Philanthropies, Spectrum, Standard Industries and award partner Baccarat.
