About the Role:
The Institutional Giving Officer will play a key role in growing and diversifying Citymeals’ institutional fundraising program, which currently generates $4.8 million annually in support of general operations and programmatic priorities. Reporting to the Director, Institutional Giving, the Manager will manage a portfolio of institutional funders and serve as a primary grant writer for the Institutional Giving team. The Manager will oversee the full grant lifecycle from prospect research, cultivation, and proposal development through stewardship and reporting, drafting high-quality proposals, letters of inquiry, reports, and other funder-facing materials. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated fundraising professional to deepen their grant writing, funder strategy, and relationship management experience within a mission-driven, high-performing development team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a primary grant writer, drafting compelling letters of inquiry, proposals, grant applications, reports, acknowledgment letters, and other funder communications tailored to each funder’s priorities and guidelines.
- Cultivate, steward, and solicit a growing portfolio of private foundation and corporate foundation donors and prospects.
- Conduct prospect research and help identify new institutional funding opportunities aligned with Citymeals’ mission, programs, Innovation & Impact Fund, and 2040 goal to end elder hunger in New York City.
- Track grant deadlines, deliverables, proposal requirements, reporting requirements, and stewardship activities to ensure timely, accurate submissions.
- Maintain up-to-date donor records and grant pipeline information in Raiser’s Edge and other tracking systems.
- Collaborate with Programs, Finance, Communications, and other internal teams to gather programmatic, financial, and impact information for proposals, reports, budgets, and funder updates.
- Prepare grant budgets, financial attachments, and related materials in partnership with Finance and the Director, Institutional Giving.
- Prepare planning documents, strategy briefings, and meeting materials for donor and prospect meetings, site visits, phone calls, and other engagement opportunities.
- Support the Director, Institutional Giving in developing funder strategies, managing special projects, responding to additional funder requests, and advancing institutional giving priorities.
- Contribute to the overall work of the Development team, including selected cross-team projects and organizational fundraising priorities as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, plus a minimum of three years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, grant writing, institutional giving, corporate relations, or related areas.
- Demonstrated grant writing experience, including drafting successful proposals, letters of inquiry, reports, and other funder-facing materials for foundation, corporate, or institutional funders.
- Working knowledge of foundation and corporate foundation/philanthropy funding communities. Familiarity with New York City philanthropic community is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience cultivating donor relationships and contributing to successful foundation and/or corporate fundraising efforts.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects, shift priorities, and meet grant, reporting, and internal deadlines.
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial data, work with budgets, and translate financial information into clear funder-facing materials.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel; knowledge of Raiser’s Edge NXT and Monday.com preferred.
- Occasional evening and weekend availability for donor events or other business needs.
