After opening its doors twenty years ago, the Leonard Covello Senior Center in Harlem needed renovation, and volunteers from ABC Disney, JP Morgan Chase, AmeriCorps, Fordham Prep, New York University, and City Year graciously accepted the challenge. The center, which was recently taken over by the Carter Burden Center for the Aging, required a complete restoration from floor to ceiling.

These generous individuals spent several hours tearing down walls, ripping up floors, removing old furniture and debris, and cleaning the space. Their enthusiasm and dedication to the project did not go unnoticed. Director of Volunteer Programs Vivienne O’Neill stated, “These volunteers showed true passion for community service. They approached these arduous tasks with vigor and without complaint. We are truly thankful for their generosity and commitment to helping New York City’s frail aged.”
