This could be her only gift this holiday season
This time of year can be very lonely for our city’s isolated elderly – but with nourishing meals, cheerful visits and – most importantly, your help – it doesn’t have to be.
Throughout the year and especially during the bitter winter, Citymeals on Wheels provides an uninterrupted lifeline of nutritious meals to 18,000 homebound elderly New Yorkers. In addition to making sure they never have to go outside in the perilous, freezing weather, our devoted staff and volunteers also deliver vital human companionship.
You might be surprised to learn some lesser known facts about this population:
- New York City is home to nearly 1.5 million senior citizens, 60 years and older.
- Nearly 100% of our meal recipients use assistive devices for walking, and many use more than one.
- Many of our meal recipients are isolated and lonely; 57% live alone and 40% rarely or never leave their homes.
You can help us bring a smile to the faces of frail aged New Yorkers when they are at their most vulnerable.
Please give the gift of meals and company to our isolated older neighbors, so they know someone is looking out for them during the holidays. 100% of your tax-deductible contribution will go directly to nourishing New York’s homebound elderly.
