Chefs Pedro Bargero, Luke Dale-Roberts, Neil Perry, and César Troisgros Joined Chef Boulud at DANIEL to Support Older New Yorkers in Need

(Monday, March 11, 2019 – New York, NY) Last night, guests joined Citymeals on Wheels Board Co-President Chef Daniel Boulud and some of the most celebrated chefs from around the world for the 22nd Annual Sunday Supper, hosted at Restaurant DANIEL. The annual event raised over $850,000 to prepare and deliver more than 115,000 meals to New York’s City’s homebound elderly. 100% of the proceeds raised from the event will go directly to the preparation and delivery of meals.

“I am thrilled to celebrate yet another successful Sunday Supper at DANIEL, to be able to cook alongside my talented peers from around the world and to help raise funds for Citymeals on Wheels,” said Chef Daniel Boulud. “Citymeals supports the people who built this city and continue to make it a place I am proud to call home.”

For more than twenty years, Chef Boulud has hosted this intimate dinner, inviting notable culinary talents to join him in the kitchen to prepare and serve a lavish and inventive multi-course menu. This year’s lineup of international guest chefs included chefs Pedro Bargero (Chila, Buenos Aires, Argentina), Luke Dale-Roberts (The Test Kitchen, Cape Town, South Africa), Neil Perry (Rockpool, Sydney, Australia), and César Troisgros (Troisgros, Ouches, Loire Valley, France).

Beth Shapiro, Executive Director of Citymeals on Wheels, added, “On behalf of Citymeals on Wheels, I thank Chef Boulud, once again, for hosting another special evening in support of our organization. Year after year, Sunday Supper makes a difference in the lives of the city’s most vulnerable population by raising funds to prepare and deliver thousands of meals to the frail aged. We also thank the generous chefs who joined us, the talented staff at DANIEL, our sponsors and all of our guests for their contributions toward a night we won’t forget.”

Featured dishes included: 25 Hour Scharbauer Ranch Short Ribs with Black Purée from Chef Bargero; Trout and Alaskan King Crab Lime Panna Cotta, Dill and Clementine Snow from Chef Dale-Roberts; Seared Swordfish Anchovies Spikes, Lardo, Skordalia, Black Vinegar from Chef Perry; L'Escalope de Saumon à l'Oseille from Chef Troisgros; and for a dessert Pishori Pistachio Infused Opalys Chocolate Salted Caramel and Praliné Frankincense Ice Cream from Pastry Chef Ghaya F. Oliveira of Restaurant DANIEL.

The Dinex Group’s Wine Director Daniel Johnnes and Head Sommelier Raj Vaidya selected the fine wines that accompanied each course.

The event co-chairs were Nancy and Jon Bauer, Ellen and Robert S. Grimes, and Lisa Rosenblum. The “Serving Good Daily” award, sponsored by City National Bank, was awarded to Jean-François Bruel, Executive Chef at DANIEL, for his dedicated support to Citymeals and the homebound elderly they nourish.

The evening included live and silent auctions featuring one-of-a-kind travel and dining experiences, specialty gourmet selections, and rare and large format wines. Live auction lots included a trip to Florence, Italy to train and cook in professional restaurants; a three-day stay at the exclusive Tequila Patrón Hacienda in Jalisco, Mexico; a one-of-a-kind dinner at home, prepared by Citymeals Board Member Chef Michael White; and more.

Working in partnership with community-based organizations and senior centers, Citymeals prepares and delivers over 2 million weekend, holiday and emergency meals for more than 18,000 of our frail aged neighbors each year. This year, nearly 25,000 individuals lent their support to our mission.
