On September 24, 2012, three New York Mets players “pitched in” and delivered meals in Whitestone, Queens. Pitchers Rob Carson, Josh Edgin and Jeremy Hefner met at the Florence E. Smith Senior Services Center in Corona to pack up meals and greet the kitchen staff and the older people from the community who were enjoying their lunch. Soon after, the players visited four homes of meal recipients to deliver food and Mets memorabilia. Along the delivery route, they spent time with several World War II veterans, one of whom has a Purple Heart, and a couple married for 64 years. Jack, who was celebrating his 91st birthday, exclaimed, “This is a day I’ll always remember!”

Citymeals would like to thank the pitchers who generously donated their time and brought a moment of joy to homebound elderly New Yorkers.
