From multi-course dinners at top-rated restaurants to casual happy hours at local bars, Citymeals hosts a variety of events throughout the year. Proceeds from several recent happenings around town – and many upcoming events – are funding the preparation and delivery of nutritious meals to homebound elderly New Yorkers.

Just last weekend fifteen runners participated in the TCS New York City Marathon in support of Citymeals. Joining Team Citymeals this year was our Young Professionals Committee Member Max Puro and Friendly Visiting Coordinator at Encore Community Services Anthony Concepcion among others. In addition to training, each team member was responsible for raising enough money to fund the preparation and delivery of 450 meals. This year alone, the group raised nearly $45,000.

Earlier this fall, we kicked off our second annual Sweet September fundraising initiative. For the entire month of September, every time patrons purchased a Sweet September dessert, participating restaurants and sweet shops donated a portion of proceeds to Citymeals. In total, the program raised nearly $30,000 this year – more than three times the amount we raised in our inaugural year. We look forward to expanding the program in the future as we work with even more shops and restaurants throughout the city.

Marking one of the last days of summer, the Citymeals Young Professionals Committee hosted a happy hour at Board Member Chef Charlie Palmer’s flagship restaurant, Aureole. The city’s movers and shakers mingled while enjoying drinks and canapés all in support of Citymeals. Days later, Chef Palmer continued his tradition of giving by hosting the Fourth Annual Oyster Social Aureole. Guests enjoyed endless oysters and seasonal seafood paired with Bloody Marys, beer and wine while taking in the sounds of a live band. Proceeds from that afternoon will help us deliver more than 1,000 nourishing meals.

Next on our calendar is Napa Valley Somms & Sliders at The Bowery Hotel. Eleven of New York City’s hottest sommeliers were asked to pair their best burgers with the perfect Napa wine. At the kickoff party, guests will sample these delicious pairings, enjoy an additional 40-plus Napa Valley wines, meet the winery teams, and mingle with the sommeliers who created these perfect pairings. All proceeds from ticket sales benefit Citymeals.

Then on November 20th, more than 400 women will gather for the 29th Annual Power Lunch for Women at The Plaza Hotel. A spoof on the concept of the power breakfast, this event has taken a permanent slot in the appointment books of New York City’s leading women in business, art, politics, entertainment and more. This year’s luncheon will honor Citymeals Board Member Yusi Gurrera of Citarella. Norah O’Donnell, Co-Host CBS This Morning, will act as our emcee.
