Inspired by Each a New Day

Citymeals congratulates Patrick on his retirement after nearly a decade of service to our mission! His contributions are much appreciated and his talent and kindness will be missed. Enjoy your golden years, Patrick!

Describe what you do at Citymeals.

For the last eight years, I’ve been the Controller at Citymeals, working  on all of the day-to-day activities from a financial standpoint. That includes payroll, journal entries, PayPal monthly reports, credit card logs, and so on. As an assistant to the CFO, I work to ensure our fiscal activities are aligned with our database activities. And ultimately, ensuring that all donations and public support are properly accounted for.

What is something you hope you can always do, regardless of age?

I hope to always play soccer, a sport I learned as a young boy in my native country of Jamaica. I joined a soccer league at just a few years old and I have been playing ever since.

What do you enjoy about working for Citymeals?

I have always been passionate about working with the elderly. And many of our meal recipients rely on their deliverers not only for the nourishing food, but also for the human connection. That resonates with me. Especially because one of these days, I will be relying on help from others, too.

Are there older people that have played an important role in your life?

I spent a lot of time with my grandmothers growing up. One of them, in particular, did not receive a formal education, but she was an avid reader. She would study newspapers front to back. She inspired me to do the same, regardless of all the modern ways to learn about the news.

What is your favorite food?

Definitely red peas and rice with curried shrimp. It is a passed down family recipe.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by the opportunity of a new day. I feel blessed to see a new day each morning. I strive to be better tomorrow than I am today.
