Bringing Joy to Brooklyn

This month at Colonie, where I am the Executive Chef, we proudly join Citymeals for Sweet September. Throughout the month, eateries across the city donate a portion of their proceeds from a special menu item to help feed homebound New Yorkers.

I support Citymeals for the simple reason that no one should be without food, especially our older neighbors. And it’s not just the nutrition – knowing others are there to care for and show you love is essential, too.

As a chef, I feel a personal responsibility to help tackle hunger. Restaurants have the skills and resources necessary to help, and we’re in a position to make a larger impact. Every day in kitchens across the five boroughs we are using our creativity to offer food we are proud to serve guests. On a larger scale, we can use this same creative spirit to support our communities in unique ways that demonstrate we understand their needs.

But I want to talk about food! We love our doughnuts at Colonie. They are a dessert that just seems to span generations, bringing joy to all who eat them. They are one of our most popular desserts, so for every doughnut sold, $1 will be donated to Citymeals. Freshly fried yeast doughnuts that are light, fluffy and coated eloquently in sugar is the perfect recipe to sweeten our guests’ lives and make them feel that much more special.

We put tremendous time and care into everything we do at Colonie. Our open kitchen is at the center of the restaurant and very much the heart that keeps beating, providing energy to the dining room every night. All of our guests are encouraged to stop by and say hello and to ask questions about the food they’ve sampled. This is a place you can come back to over and over again. A place where we will be as happy to see you as you are to see us.

So let us see you this September in support of Citymeals!
