More than 1,200 New Yorkers attended the Big Apple Circus on Friday evening, December 13th, in support of Citymeals. The event raised over $70,000 – enough to provide almost 11,000 meals to homebound elderly New Yorkers.
Performers welcomed guests as they entered into the circus tent, dazzling them with their talents before the show began. From clowns and jugglers to high-flying trapeze artists, the entertainers wowed the entire audience while they snacked on circus treats like popcorn and cotton candy. In addition to our donors, hundreds of families representing our 33 meal centers and volunteers from across the city attended as our special guests. All enjoyed this festive evening at Big Apple Circus, which is a holiday tradition for many in the city.
“Citymeals is honored that so many friends were able to join us here tonight to support our programs,” stated Citymeals Executive Director Beth Shapiro. “Many who attended know our meal recipients firsthand and understand that this season can be a time that is especially lonely for the homebound elderly. They may have outlived their family and friends, so our meal deliverer is often the only person they see all day.”
Ms. Shapiro also remarked, “We are so thankful to the very generous friend of Citymeals who made the evening possible. We guarantee one hundred percent of every dollar donated will directly fund the delivery of nutritious meals and friendly visits to New York’s frail aged neighbors.”
