The Loews Volunteers
On Saturday, April 29, 2006, twenty Loews Hotel employees joined Citymeals-on-Wheels to commemorate the 80th birthday of the late Preston Robert (”Bob”) Tisch, the much-beloved chair of Loews Corporation and one of the first “Friends of Citymeals.” The volunteers included Mr. Tisch’s daughter Laurie Tisch and granddaughter Emily. The volunteers delivered hot, nutritious meals to homebound elderly New Yorkers from Encore Community Services’ Senior Center on the West Side of Manhattan.
Mr. Tisch was a dedicated and significant leader, graciously lending his time and expertise to many charitable organizations including Citymeals-on-Wheels. Mr. Tisch was Citymeals’ longest-serving president (10 years). Under his leadership, the organization experienced exponential expansion including a 129% increase in the number of meals delivered each year. Mr. Tisch was an extraordinary man. We are grateful for the chance to have known him and we will never forget this inspiring man who gave so much to so many.
