Volunteer Viewpoint: Manfred Hauben
I am very happy to be a Citymeals-on-Wheels volunteer. This was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I consistently look forward to my Saturday morning delivery visits. In addition to the usual gratification I get from helping my community, I have met so many wonderful people. This includes staff at the Carter Burden Center, other volunteers, as well as our meal recipients. My social network is enormously enriched by all of them. When I have to travel for work I miss everyone and find myself thinking of them on Saturday morning. At times I am concerned when some of our homebound elderly thank us profusely in a tone that suggests perhaps they feel they are being a burden. Nothing could be further from the truth. I tell them, and hope they believe me, how happy I am to come and see them each and every time.
