The Cooper Family – Helen, Jim, and Eric Cooper

Jim and I began volunteering with Citymeals-on-Wheels in November of 2008.  We were looking for a volunteer opportunity that we could do together on the weekends as a family, with Eric, who was then just 7 months old.  Because we are out of town often and have busy weekday schedules, we needed a volunteer opportunity that was flexible.  Citymeals-on-Wheels was a perfect fit.  We can sign up at the beginning of the week for the upcoming Saturday without any obligation for future Saturdays, and each Saturday delivery just takes an hour or two.  

Now Eric, who is almost 2 years old, loves to meet the seniors and practice saying “bye-bye” and blowing kisses to them.  The homebound elderly really enjoy interacting with Eric and asking questions about him.  We have found this volunteer experience to be immediately rewarding.  The seniors really appreciate the meals and the brief conversation, and the smiles on their faces brighten our day.
