Keri Describes her Meal Delivery Experience
May 2006 - Keri is in her first year as a Citymeals-on-Wheels volunteer, having been introduced to the program in August 2005 through her employer ESPN, Inc. where she is a publicist for ESPN Original Entertainment. The Long Island, N.Y., native moved to the NYC area in June 2005 from Central Connecticut and “wanted to give back to the community and the people who make New York such a magical, vibrant city.” Her participation involves writing letters to Citymeals-on-Wheels’ homebound elderly as part of the Senior Script program, delivering meals Saturday mornings from any of the three meal centers located in Manhattan, and assisting with specail events such as the Volunteer Expo.
Keri says being a Senior Script Volunteer, is particulary close to her heart because it incorporates good old-fashioned letter writing and learning about the variety of people whom she considers the “true historians of this great city.” The letters people write are so heartfelt and express such appreciation for Citymeals-on-Wheels’ programs that you can help but feel good about being involved in the organization. Personally, I love reading about people’s life experiences: where they are from, where they worked, what kinds of things they are going through now. Hopefully, I am able to comfort them somewhat with my correspondence.”
When not volunteering, Keri continues to stay active in her favorite sport, volleyball, and events for her alma mater, Syracuse University.
