Volunteer Viewpoint: Debra Goldberg

Volunteer Debra GoldbergFor as long as I can remember, Citymeals-on-Wheels has been an organization I have been very interested in. When I first applied to become a volunteer, I was hesitant to commit much time because of my work schedule and other obligations. Starting out with Senior Script assignments, I realized how much I loved being able to help the elderly, even in a small way.

Gradually, I started delivering meals on Saturdays from various community centers and then I was hooked! I’ve really loved spending a few hours a week delivering meals and having lovely conversations with incredible seniors as well as working side by side with dedicated volunteers. The highlight of my first year was volunteering at the Carter Burden Senior Center’s Christmas Party. So much time and care was taken to make a very lovely and festive atmosphere for everyone. It was an event to remember. I look forward to continuing a close relationship with the Carter Burden Senior Center.
