My name is Anil Amin. I have worked in the food industry for over 15 years. In November 2009, I opened my own Indian restaurant “NIRVANA” on Lexington Avenue.

I have experienced some great moments and some stressful days while living in New York. One of the most stressful was when I lost all my colleagues while working for Windows On The World at the World Trade Centre on 9/11. I was beyond lucky to be alive. I was given a second chance at life, and knew I had to give back in some way.

Working, and then finally having my own restaurant, I decided to look for something to allow me to give back to the community. My research led to Citymeals-on-Wheels. Citymeals appealed to me because it was close to my restaurant. I also liked that it involves feeding people which speaks to my heart. I have been volunteering for over four months.  I usually deliver meals to home bound elderly and often assist in the kitchen packing meals, etc.

I have been enriched by volunteering. It has allowed me to meet new people with great wisdom and to learn the value of life from them. Giving my time has made me richer in spirit. I thank Citymeals for providing me the opportunity to give back in such a meaningful way.
