Volunteer with Us

Citymeals offers volunteer opportunities to suit all types of schedules and interests.  You can hand-deliver meals, make social visits or answer letters.

Citymeals volunteers have been more invaluable than ever, given the challenges our city experienced in 2012. In the wake of devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy, 863 volunteers helped us deliver 64,595 meals to vulnerable elderly New Yorkers.

Columbia University journalism students recently produced a short video that offers a glimpse into the Citymeals volunteer experience. The video features a Citymeals volunteer, Diane, who talks about the benefits of volunteering. "It’s so rewarding,” she explains. “Not just to you, but also to the clients you deliver to. It just makes your heart full and happy, and I would recommend anyone doing it."

With just a little of your time, you can nourish a homebound elderly person with a wholesome meal and the joy of your company. It is an inspiring experience that keeps our volunteers coming back again and again. Last year, over 12,200 volunteers collectively contributed more than 45,574 hours of their time to volunteer with Citymeals.

Growing up on a small cotton farm in rural western Tennessee, Lily spent her formative years living as a country girl. Her family was close knit from the start, and her devoted and caring mother had a lasting impact on the woman she would become. Despite her strong familial bond, her big-city dreams beckoned her to the East Coast.
