Leaving a gift to Citymeals-on-Wheels in your will ensures that your annual support for New York’s homebound elderly will continue in perpetuity. The following descriptions should help guide you in your planning.
types of bequests
Cash Bequest: Citymeals receives a specific dollar amount.
Bequest of Property: Citymeals receives specific assets such as securities.
Residuary Bequest: Citymeals receives all or a percentage of the remainder of the estate after the payment of any specific bequests and all estate-related expenses.
Retirement Plan: Citymeals is designated the beneficiary of the remainder of your IRA, Keogh, tax-sheltered annuity, qualified pension or profit-sharing plan.
Testamentary QTIP Trust: The trust provides income, and principal if needed, to your spouse for life, after which the assets pass to Citymeals.
Contingent Bequest: Citymeals is given a bequest only in the event of the death of other beneficiaries.
how to make a bequest
You can include Citymeals at the time you write your will, or afterward, by adding an amendment.
As an example, your will could include the following wording:
“I give (all the rest, residue and remainder of my estate; or _____ dollars) to Citymeals-on-Wheels in the City of New York for its general purposes.”
