Marjorie
Marjorie's Story
by Marica Stein
My mother always taught me that caring for others was the best use of time and energy. Now, every time I visit the frail New Yorkers you help nourish, I am reminded of the importance of this life-lesson.
I frequently have the opportunity to meet our meal recipients when I go out on deliveries. Most of the time they are women who remind me of my mother, like 92-year-old Marjorie.
Soon after we arrived at her apartment, Marjorie dusted off her piano. At first, her arthritic hands moved tentatively across the keys, but within seconds they were dancing… “Moon River” filled the room.
That song holds precious memories of Marjorie’s loving husband, the man she lost to heart disease twenty years ago. With no family nearby, the only things Marjorie has left are her cherished piano, her tiny apartment and Citymeals.
There is so much in this world that we would love to change, but can’t. Feeding aged neighbors like Marjorie so she can remain in her beloved home is something we can do together.
Elderly New Yorkers like Marjorie need your support. Donate to Citymeals today and ensure that they always have nourishing meals and human companionship.
