Leon

Life has been good to Leon over his 94 years.

Born in Brooklyn, Leon was introduced to his wife Miriam by their matchmaking aunts who made a “shiddach.” They immediately clicked… and their enduring affection is still evident today, despite the daily challenges they face.

Leon still recalls how he served four years in the army during WWII as a First Sergeant training new recruits. His memories of Hawaii, where he ended his tour, are as fresh today as they were 70 years ago:

“Honolulu,” he remembers, “was a little Coney Island then, with beautiful lagoons. It was like paradise.”

He went on to enjoy a 50-year career as an accountant and have two wonderful daughters, who no longer live close by.

"We are content knowing they have found happiness, but we don’t get to see them often because life is busy."

But Leon still cherishes the time he spent with his family. And he fondly remembers his love of tennis, baseball, and the piano…even mentioning that he was quite an accomplished pianist many years ago.

Now, like so many of New York City’s homebound elderly, Leon and Miriam face struggles every day.

Please help enrich the lives of isolated elderly New Yorkers like Leon by making a gift to Citymeals today.
