A Casual Sunday Supper with Daniel
April 18, 2010
For the past twelve years, Chef Daniel Boulud has celebrated every major event in the life of his restaurant with a benefit for Citymeals-on-Wheels. This tradition has turned into an annual spring celebration, with Daniel personally hosting an intimate Sunday gathering that has become the gourmand event of the season. On April 18, 150 patrons and friends of Citymeals got decked out in their best blue jeans and gathered at DANIEL for a casual yet exquisite feast. Guests enjoyed the soothing, sultry sounds of Chris Bergson Band during a cocktail reception with hors d’oeuvre by Chef Brandon Kida of the Mandarin Oriental New York. While the Icelandic Volcano prevented guest Chef Heston Blumenthal from getting to New York in person, his team, including The Fat Duck’s Executive Chef Ashley Palmer-Watts and Pastry Chef Jocky Petrie, had already touched down in New York on Thursday and were on hand to prepare Chef Blumenthal’s dishes on his behalf. Chef Daniel, along with guest chefs served up a sumptuous menu. The connoisseurs’ silent auction included wonderful wines in rare, large format bottles, and the live auction during dinner featured one-of-a-kind experiences in travel and gourmet dining.
With the help of wine chair Daniel Johnnes and event emcee/auctioneer Richard Quest, this year’s gala reached new heights. The dinner, together with the La Paulée de San Francisco auction in March, raised nearly $400,000 for Citymeals – enough to provide more than 60,000 meals to homebound, aged New Yorkers. We are very grateful to Chef Daniel and to everyone who made this event a delicious success!
