August 24, 2007: Citymeals Loses Longtime Board Member Miram Israels
All of us at Citymeals-on-Wheels are deeply saddened by the loss of Miriam Israels, our first volunteer and powerful force behind our special events from our beginning — role model, Board member and loving friend. Miriam was a woman with dramatic personal style, joie de vivre, energy and talent for bringing people together in smartly orchestrated settings.
Her compassion for the elderly, her dedication to Citymeals grew even into her late eighties. When she could no longer travel to the office, she wove her seductive persuasion from home by fax and phone. Feeling this loss ourselves, we wish to send comfort and affection to her devoted sister Ida and to all her adoring family.

July 20, 2007: Meal Deliveries Will NOT be Affected by Steam Pipe Explosion
Yesterday’s explosion on Lexington Avenue will not delay Citymeals-on-Wheels meal deliveries. If you or someone you know needs meals, please Get Meals, and then enter the potential meal recipient’s zip code to identify a meal center serving you area. If you are having difficulty contacting a meal center, please call DFTA at (212) 442-1000.
As Thursday’s explosion occurred in front of the Citymeals offices, in the area that Mayor Bloomberg has declared a “frozen zone”, our headquarters is closed. We will be there in person to help as soon as it is safe to return to the area. Again, this will not impact meal deliveries throughout the weekend.
