In 1985, Chefs Larry Forgione and Jonathan Waxman went to Citymeals Co-founder Gael Greene with the idea of celebrating the life of James Beard and his love of cooking, all for the benefit of Citymeals-on-Wheels. As Gael remembers, "The first 'American Chefs and Winemakers' al fresco feast was planned to celebrate Jim's 82nd birthday.

Citymeals-on-Wheels provides an opportunity to elevate the traditional fine dining experience through the Citymeals Dineout, “The Best Tables in Town.” Since 1984, the annual program has inspired some of New York City’s most prominent and charitable restaurants.

On Tuesday, April 23, Dennis Riese, longtime Citymeals-on-Wheels Board Member and CEO of Riese Restaurants, hosted Citymeals’ annual volunteer recognition party.

On Sunday, April 7, Citymeals Board Vice President Chef Daniel Boulud celebrated the 20th anniversary of his restaurant, DANIEL, with a benefit for Citymeals-on-Wheels. “A Night with Daniel” was an intimate and exquisite Sunday dinner, attended by one hundred and seventy generous New Yorkers.

To kick off spring, Citymeals marked two important holidays by delivering special meals to homebound elderly New Yorkers.
