Message from Executive Director
Last July Citymeals was forced to increase meal costs from $5 to $6. At that time, we were convinced we would be able to maintain our level of service, providing a meal and a visit to the 17,600 disabled elderly who rely on us. We thought the worst was over. It now seems as if it was just the beginning. The cost of a home-delivered meal is influenced by food and fuel costs. I don’t need to tell you how dramatically these items have risen in price over the past months. In addition, we firmly believe there should not be a ceiling on the number of people in need who have access to the home-delivered meals program. The result is that the rolls of meal recipients have risen along with the price per meal.
Our service is not one that can be postponed until economic conditions improve. How could we ever tell a 95-year-old woman in a wheelchair there will be no meals for three days? We should never do that.
We need your help now more than ever before if we are to continue bringing nutritious meals and company to the thousands who depend on us. Citymeals is a lifeline from all of us to each of them.
Every $36.00 you send becomes six nutritious meals hand-delivered. A donation of $144 ensures an elderly New Yorker has something to eat every weekend of the summer. What an incredible gift that is!
Your donation helps ensure we are not forced to reduce the number of meals we deliver. I hope you will do all you can to help at this critical time.
With gratitude,

Marcia Stein
Executive Director
